If you're searching for Woodlands Restaurant in Langley Park, here's the short answer: Woodlands Pure Vegetarian, which served South Indian food at 8046 New Hampshire Ave for years, closed its Langley Park location in early 2021. Woodlands later reopened in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
The same space is now home to BITES Food Court + Bar, and vegetarian South Indian food is back at that address through Ananda Kitchen, our counter inside the food hall.
What happened to Woodlands in Langley Park?
Woodlands Pure Vegetarian was a long-time destination for dosa, idli and other South Indian dishes in the Langley Park area. Many families in Hyattsville, Silver Spring, Takoma Park and College Park have fond memories of meals there. The Langley Park restaurant closed in early 2021.
If you're looking for Woodlands itself, they reopened in Gaithersburg. We'd suggest checking their current listing for hours and location details.
What's in the old Woodlands space now?
Today, 8046 New Hampshire Ave is BITES Food Court + Bar, a food hall in the Langley Park Shopping Center near New Hampshire Ave and University Blvd. It has several counters under one roof:
- Ananda Kitchen (also called Ananda BITES): vegetarian South Indian, North Indian and chaat.
- Charleys Philly Steaks & Wings
- SmoothieFRESH & Bubble Tea
- BITES Bar & Grill (21+ for the bar)
Ananda Kitchen had its grand opening on Dussehra in October 2025.
Is Ananda Kitchen the same as Woodlands?
No. Ananda Kitchen is a separate restaurant with its own team and menu. We're not affiliated with Woodlands. What we share is the address and a love for vegetarian South Indian cooking, and we're glad to bring dosa and idli back to this corner of Langley Park.
Is Ananda Kitchen fully vegetarian?
Yes. Everything we serve is vegetarian, and it's cooked in a separate, dedicated vegetarian kitchen, apart from the other counters in the food hall. Vegan options are available; just tell the counter you're ordering vegan. We also have a Swaminarayan-friendly menu.
What South Indian dishes can I get here today?
If you used to come to this address for South Indian food, these are good places to start:
- Masala dosa: a crispy rice-and-lentil crepe filled with spiced potato. Every dosa comes with coconut chutney, tomato chutney and 8oz of sambar, made in house daily.
- Mysore masala dosa: a masala dosa with a spicy red chutney spread inside.
- Ghee podi dosa and ghee podi idli: finished with ghee and roasted lentil-and-chili powder.
- Idli and medhu vada: steamed rice cakes and crispy lentil fritters, perfect with sambar.
- Uttapam: a thick, soft pancake with onion and chili.
We also serve chaat like pani puri, sev puri and dahi puri, plus North Indian dishes like chole bhature and a Punjabi thali. Guests often tell us our dosas and pani puri taste like home cooking. See the full menu, or start with what is a dosa? if you're bringing someone new.
Tip: the food hall has something for everyone, so it's an easy pick for groups where not everyone wants Indian food. Ananda, SmoothieFRESH and bar food share one online cart.
Can I still get South Indian catering in Langley Park?
Yes. We offer sharing trays of idli, medhu vada, sambar, samosas, chaat and more for parties, pujas and office lunches. See our catering page or call (410) 381-0011.
